1- Karachi’s First Name Was Not KOLACHI

We always have read in our history books that Karachi’s first name was Kolachi, named after a woman “Mai Kolachi”, but this is not true!

Karachi was first named Krokola under Alexander Krokola. It later changed to Debal by Muhammad Bin Qasim and Arabs, then to Kolachi in 1792 and then finally to Karachi!

2- Asia’s Biggest Christian Cross

A Pakistani Christian man, Parvez Henry Gill built a 140 ft long Christian Cross at “Gora Qabristan Cemetry, Karachi.

This is the Asia’s biggest Christian Cross which is in the city where 90 percent of the people are Muslims.

3- Third Largest Mosque

That’s right, Karachi has the third largest mosque after Makkah and Madinah. Yes, you read it right! The mosque’s name is the “Grand Jamiah” and it is in Bahria Town Karachi.

4- South Asia’s Biggest Mall

Karachi is the perfect shopping spot for everyone. “Lucky One Mall” of Karachi is South Asia’s biggest mall, built on an area of 340,000 m2 (3,659,700 sq ft). It has all the branded shops you want to shop from!

If you don’t want to spend money on expensive branded clothes then visit Qurtuba Market (Bahadurabad), Raabi Centre (Tariq Road) or Co-Operative Market (Saddar).

5- Home to Different Communities

As being the largest and the most populated city of the country, Karachi is home to million of immigrants like Africans, Afghans, Indians, Chinese, Filipinos and Bengalis.

Karachi is the only city that has the largest urban Hindu, Christian, ancient Parsi and Bohri community of the country.
